What Is It Really Like to Have Lip Injections?

Lip injections are the most common type of lip augmentation procedure. Like other types of dermal fillers used on other parts of the face, lip fillers fight the signs and effects of the aging process or give naturally thin lips a boost for a plumper pout.

As with any cosmetic procedure, the key is to work with a skilled and licensed provider to lower your risk of complications and achieve the best results. At Boost Your Beauty MediSpa, our team consists of expert cosmetic injectors at our office in Merrick, New York.

What you need to know about getting lip injections

Lip fillers are a non-surgical and minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that you can get on your lunch break or between errands (a typical session takes 20-30 minutes in most cases). Modern dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, so the risks of complications are relatively low and the results tend to look more natural when applied by an experienced professional.

Here are some things to keep in mind before getting your lip injections and what you can expect after your appointment.

Have realistic expectations

Knowing what you want is important, but keep in mind that your face shape and lips are unique, so asking for lips that look just like your favorite celebrity is not necessarily a good idea. Our team works with you so your results are noticeable and make you stand out, but are also natural-looking and proportional to the rest of your features.

Expect some pain and discomfort

Many dermal fillers contain lidocaine to help take the sting out of the application, but your lips are sensitive, and you may still feel a little discomfort at the injection site. It’s a quick and minimally invasive procedure, but if you have a lower pain threshold, you may feel a little sting.

Lip injections are temporary

Like Botox® and other cosmetic injectables, lip fillers are not permanent. Results vary from person to person and also depend on the type of filler that we use, but on average, lip injections usually last about six months.

Be ready for bruising and swelling

You don’t have to worry about bandages or a lengthy recovery period or even any significant downtime. But you should expect some swelling and possibly even bruising for the first 24-48 hours.

Buyer’s remorse? You can have them dissolved

On the off chance that you’re not happy with your results, you don’t have to wait six months for the filler to dissolve on its own. One of the benefits of hyaluronic acid-based fillers is that if you change your mind after getting the injection, we can dissolve the filler, but it’ll take another injection.
