Chemical Peels

15 minutes What is a chemical peel? A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure that uses specialized chemicals to remove the surface layer of damaged skin. Chemical peels are used to improve the texture and tone of your skin without the need for injections or surgery.

Chemical peels are customizable and include light, medium, and deep peel levels that can be used based on the condition of your skin.

Who can benefit from a chemical peel? Since chemical peels can be customized and offer different levels of treatment, peels can be used for:

• Acne or acne scars
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Irregular skin pigmentation
• Uneven skin texture
• Sun damage

If you have more complex skin concerns – like deep wrinkles or large scars – Mena may recommend other treatment options, like dermal fillers.

What happens during a chemical peel? After your complimentary consultation with Mena, she outlines your chemical peel options based on the condition of your skin and your desired outcome. Once you choose the best type of peel for your needs, Mena or a member of the Boost Your Beauty Medispa team prepares your skin and the peel solution.

First, your skin is cleaned and the aesthetician begins sweeping layers of the liquid peel onto your skin using cotton balls or gauze. When all the layers of your peel are applied, the team ensures the peel remains on your skin for the correct length of time.

After your peel is complete, Mena rinses the peel from your skin and provides you with aftercare instructions. Your skin will be extra sensitive to sunlight temporarily, so wearing sunscreen and a hat may be necessary.

What results can I expect after a chemical peel? After your chemical peel, you’ll notice redness and flaking skin for the first few days. About five to seven days later, you’ll have more flaking and peeling until the surface layer of damaged skin is sloughed off. Within a week, you’ll see healthy, new skin revealed.

Depending on the type of peel you received, you may notice either subtle or more dramatic changes. Overall your skin will be more even in tone and texture with a brighter glow.

Microneedling and PRP

Microneedling, otherwise known as Collagen Induction Therapy(CID), balances skin tone and minimizes pores. Each treatment creates microchannels in the epidermis, stimulating your body's natural healing response and creating pathways for deeper product penetration. CID treatments offer an efficient way to drastically reduce scarring, and can be done anywhere on the body.

What is microneedling? Microneedling is a facial procedure that involves poking multiple tiny holes in the surface of your skin. These controlled wounds encourage your body to rush blood, nutrients, and healing factors to your face to boost cell turnover, collagen production, and healing.

Microneedling is performed using a wand or pen equipped with multiple tiny needles. Mena or a member of the team move the device over your face to puncture tiny channels into your skin. Your body works hard to fill these microscopic wounds.

How does platelet-rich plasma enhance microneedling? The microneedling process makes your skin receptive to the numerous growth factors available in platelet-rich plasma (PRP) which comes from your own blood. A small sample is drawn from your arm and spun down in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelet count. These platelets offer extraordinary growth factors and cytokines.

The small channels created with microneedling create the perfect delivery system for the PRP, which is applied to your face after the wand creates the controlled wounds.

How many sessions will I need to see results from microneedling with PRP? Generally, you benefit from a series of treatments, spaced about four to six weeks apart. Exactly how many sessions you need depends on the state of your skin and your aesthetic goals. Mena can help you determine the right course of therapy for you.

Does microneedling hurt and require a lot of downtime? Microneedling can be uncomfortable, which is why you usually receive a topical numbing cream prior to the treatment. Following treatment, you have no prescribed downtime, but may feel self-conscious because your skin may appear slightly reddened, swollen, and lightly bruised. These effects can be covered with makeup and fade in a day or two.

How soon will I notice results from microneedling with PRP? You will notice a more radiant glow to your skin after about three days following the procedure. Your optimal results appear within a few weeks, however, when growth factors have a chance to kick in and build strength, produce new collagen, and boost skin health.
